The Ministry of Health has confirmed the death of a 13-year-old Moruca boy, two hours after he was administered a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine that is being used to vaccinate children against COVID-19.
A full investigation of the teen’s death has been ordered and a post-mortem examination of his body is to be conducted.
According to the Ministry of Health, the young boy was administered the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks ago.
He received his second dose of the vaccine at 2:00pm today. He was observed for 20 minutes after taking the vaccine and there were no complaints. He was allowed to go back home.
Two hours after he returned home, the young boy collapsed and was rushed to the Kumaka Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“We urge citizens not indulge in speculation and await the results of the post-mortem and other investigations.
The Ministry of Health has extended sympathy to the family of the young boy.
Guyana started administering the Pfizer vaccine to children close to a month ago. There were complaints of children falling ill after receiving their first dose, but the side effects were not fatal.
