A 15-year-old North East La Penitence boy is nursing a gunshot wound to his mouth after he was shot late last night by the Police while in Police custody. The teenager, identified as Alex Griffith is a patient of the Georgetown Hospital this morning.

According to the boy’s mother Marcelle Griffith, she was at home with her son when three police officers came banging at her door. She said when she opened the door, they told her that they wanted to talk to her son. The woman said the policemen told her that the young man was the witness to a robbery but not a suspect.

“They identified themselves as policemen and said they wanted to talk to him about witnessing some robbery. They told me he was not involved but they believe he see what happen but he was at home and they did not even say what robbery it was that they were talking about but I called my son to talk to them anyway”, the woman said.

The teenager told the police officers that he did not witness any robbery and according to the mother, “that was when police officers grabbed him and dragged him out the house and they started to beat him.

He was thrown into a police vehicle with two other policemen. She was told to meet them at the Brickdam station, but moments after the vehicle drove off, she said heard a gunshot. When she got to the police station, her son was not there but she later received a call from the Georgetown hospital informing her that the teen was shot and dropped off at the hospital by the police and was in the emergency unit.

She said “when I came to the hospital, the Police guard here told me that the police shoot my son and that he was with the doctors. He had been bleeding but could still talk to me”.

The woman said she was shocked by the action of the police officers and is now demanding justice. She said that her son told her that one of the policemen placed a gun in his mouth and shot him while the vehicle was moving. She said he lost a lot of blood and she is praying that he pulls through.
