16-year-old remanded to jail over murder at Baramita

A 16-year-old youth, who was on the run for close to a year for the murder of a Baramita Farmer, made his first appearance in Court today and was immediately remanded.

The Teen appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mclennan and was not required to plea to the charge to murder.

The Court heard that on October 12, 2016, the teenager (whose name cannot be published because of his age) murdered Abraham Wilson at Cacique Creek, Baramita, North West District.

The two were reportedly consuming “rice wine”, when an argument broke out during a drunken disagreement.

It is alleged that the teen armed himself with knife and stabbed Wilson to the left side of his neck.

The injured man managed to stumble his way into another mining camp, where he related the issue and collapsed.

The suspect escaped but was nabbed recently by a village leader in the area.

The teenager was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Centre and has been instructed to return to court on November 17th.
