An 18-year-old Corentyne man is nursing multiple chop wounds to his body after he was reportedly caught in a duck pen with five ducklings valued at $5000 in a shopping bag.

The farmer who owns the ducks has been taken into custody after admitting to chopping the teen.

But the farmer has claimed that it was the teen who rushed towards him with a knife when he caught him red-handed trying to steal his ducklings.

The man claims that after the teen reportedly rushed towards him, he fired several chops at him, leaving him injured in the pen.

The injured 18-year-old who has since been identified as Chetram Gopaul was rushed to Skeldon Hospital and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The 52-year-old farmer is in Police custody.
