18 years in jail for man who raped 7-yr-old girl when he was 15

A 20-year-old young man will spend the next 18 years of his life behind bars after he confessed to raping a 7-year-old girl five years ago.

Delon Clemenson, who confessed to the heinous crime a few weeks ago, was handed the 18-year sentence today by Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who also ordered a psychiatric evaluation of him.

The charge alleged that Clemenson, on August 1st and 31st 2013, had engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16. At that time, the accused was 15-years-old.

The young man, who was represented by Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, showed no emotions as he left the Sexual Offences Court in Georgetown to start his 18 year sentence.

The State was represented by prosecutors Lisa Cave and Orinthia Schmidt.
