20-year-old miner dies mysteriously in Jawalla mining camp

Police investigators have traveled to the Upper Mazaruni community of Jawalla village to probe the death of a 20-year-old miner, which occurred on Friday.

The Police in a statement said its investigations have so far revealed that on Friday after completing his work, the miner, Steve Stephen, prepared dinner but retired to bed in his mining camp without eating the dinner.

Hours later, the other miners said they heard a loud scream by the man in his camp and upon investigation, they observed his motionless body.

A nurse and the Police in the community were contacted and the young miner was pronounced dead at the scene. The Police said there were no marks of violence on the dead miner’s body and a post-mortem examination will have to be carried out to determine the cause of death.

The dead man’s workmates also told investigators that on the same day, the man did not eat at all, and they found that very strange.

All of the workmates have been questioned and a full probe is underway.
