
The Government has allocated $34.4 Billion to the Guyana Police Force in this year’s Budget, with heavy focus on infrastructure development within the Force.
During his Budget presentation, the Finance Minister said in 2024, the sum of $5.2 billion was expended to advance infrastructural works including the ongoing construction of the Force’s new Brickdam Police Station, as well as the construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of key infrastructure projects, which included Police stations, living quarters, barracks, and Divisional Headquarters.
This year, the Force is expected to spend a further $4.7 Billion on its infrastructural development, which includes another $1.7 Billion for the construction of the Brickdam Police Station, $1 Billion for the construction and completion of police stations and posts in Imbotero, Bonasika, Leguan, San Souci, Albertown, Beterverwagting, East La Penitence, Kitty, Mahaica, Mahaicony, Weldaad, Orealla, Ekereku, Paramakatoi, Annai, Lethem, Ituni and Kwakwani, as well as $597 million to advance works on a modern Police training academy campus at Dora as well as the completion of the headquarters for Regional Division Six, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Constabulary and the Tactical Services Unit.

In addition, $314 million has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of Police stations at Mabura, Timehri, Turkeyen and Mora Point, and the upgrading of North Ruimveldt Outpost and the Highway Patrol Base.
In addition, another $2B has been budgeted this year to improve the Force’s transportation fleet
The Finance Minister noted that Community Policing groups have been yielding results at the community level and as a result, this year $156.6 million is budgeted for the formation of an additional 45 Community Policing Groups.
Further, another $6.2B has been budgeted to advance the Safe Country Programme, while $250 million has been budgeted for Police training and collaborations this year.
