60-year-old in custody over death of 21-year-old visiting Guyanese in Corentyne accident

A young overseas-based Guyanese man, who was on a visit to Guyana, died tragically on Monday afternoon in an accident along the Number 64 Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice.

The dead youth has been identified as 21-year-old Jagdeo Bhimsingh. A police report said he was riding an unregistered motorcycle at a fast rate along the #64 village Public Road when a car being driven by a 60-year-old man from the same Corentyne village turned into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in the collision.

According to the Police, the young motorcyclist, who was unlicensed and was not wearing a helmet, was pitched onto the roadway and reportedly sustained multiple injuries to his body. He was rushed to the #75 Village Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 60-year-old driver was taken into Police custody. A police report said a Breathalyzer test was administered to the elderly man and small traces of alcohol was found in his system.

The investigation into the tragic road accident is ongoing.
