7th Cycle of Registration ends December 31, 2014

As Guyana gears up for early elections in 2015, the Guyana Elections Commission has announced that the 7th cycle of continuous registration that is currently underway will come to an end on December 31, 2014.

The registration period should have come to an end in February, 2015 but with the President getting ready to announce a date for early elections, the commission is starting its preparations for the polls.

In a statement, GECOM reminded that anyone who would be fourteen years or older by March 31st, 2015 and is a Guyanese citizen by birth, descent or naturalization, or is a citizen of a Commonwealth country who has been living continuously in Guyana for one year or more, is eligible for registration.

It said persons ought to make a special effort to get registered before December 31, 2014, so as to be part of the new National Register of Registrants (NRR).

Registration centres are located in all 10 of the administrative regions across the country but they will be closed on Sundays and and holidays.

The political parties are encouraging anyone who may not have been registered as yet or who may not be the holder of an ID card to get registered so that their name could make it onto the voters list.
