The Commander of A’ Division, Derrick Josiah passed away on Thursday afternoon at the Woodlands Hospital where he was nursing injuries form a vehicular accident which took place in November.
Mr. Josiah who also served as an Assistant Commissioner of Police never returned to work after the accident and his injuries were said to be very serious.
He was the passenger in the back seat of a Police Force car when his driver lost control while trying to evade an out of control car approaching in the opposite direction. He was heading to an early morning assignment.
Josiah’s car slammed into a power pole and he was rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries. His driver also sustained several injuries.
When news of his death reached his Office at the Brickdam Police station, several police officers wept openly. He was described as one of the most disciplined, friendly and professional police officers to ever served the Guyana Police Force.
