An American Airlines flight from Miami to Georgetown on Thursday night returned to Miami 30 minutes into the flight after a flight attendant and a passenger were involved in a dispute.
President Irfaan Ali was among the passengers on-board the non-stop flight that was forced to make a return to Miami.
The issue between the passenger and a male flight attendant reportedly took place in the rear of the aircraft after the passenger attempted to help himself to a bottle of water for a relative who was having a panic attack.
Other passengers on board reported that after the passenger was told to return to his seat by the male flight attendant as he attempted to get the water for his relative, the two got into a verbal confrontation, with the passenger telling the flight attendant that he will “deal with him” when he reaches Guyana.
The flight attendant took the statement as a threat and informed the pilot, who decided to return to Miami.
News Source understands that President Ali and most of the other passengers only became aware of the incident when the announcement was made that the flight was returning to Miami.
Once the plane landed back in Miami, the rowdy passenger was removed and reportedly booked on another flight. All of the passengers were forced to disembark the aircraft when it returned to Miami, resulting in a delayed departure.
The American Airlines flight eventually arrived in Guyana at around 3 o’clock this morning, more than four hours after its initial arrival time.
American Airlines is probing the incident.
