AFC outlines its vision for Guyana at meeting with Private Sector Commission

In a meeting with the Private Sector Commission (PSC) on Thursday, the Alliance For Change (AFC) said it presented its vision for Guyana, as it seeks to expand its support base ahead of the upcoming General and Regional Elections.

The meeting took place at the Private Sector Commission Office.

“The AFC, of course, presented its vision for the country over the next 10 to 15 years, and the critical areas for discussion,” Leader of the Alliance For Change, Nigel Hughes disclosed during a press conference following the meeting.

He said issues discussed ranged from national development and the need for a national development plan that is all inclusive, to the conduct of elections, and the importance of safeguarding Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to the AFC Leader, the PSC had keen interest in the upcoming Elections, and ability of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to conduct free and fair elections.

“The Private Sector Commission expressed confidence in GECOM, and we expressed the exact opposite, a complete lack of confidence. We identified several areas, which have caused us to not have confidence in or lose confidence in GECOM and its chairmanship. We provided the reasons why we arrived at those conclusions,” Hughes said.

Hughes said the AFC spoke of the need for biometric identification of voters at all the place of poll to guarantee fair elections.

The AFC is expected to meet with the Elections Commission and its Chairman, Justice (Ret’d) Claudette Singh.

Hughes said once that meeting takes place, the AFC and the PSC are likely to meet again to discuss electoral matters.

The meeting was attended by the Leader of the AFC, Nigel Hughes, the party’s Chairman, David Patterson; and Executive Members Khemraj Ramjattan, Catherine Hughes, Juretha Fernandes and other party officials.

While the PSC delegation was led by its Chairman, Komal Singh.
