Residents of Agricola on the East Bank of Demerara have been promised that their community will see major development works, as part of the Government’s major push for infrastructural deveolopment across the county.

On Sunday, President Irfaan Ali paid a visit to the Agricola community and promised the residents that they will not be left behind.

The President said he is aware of the challenges of the community and will work hand in hand with the community to bring much needed relief.

“We want to work with you, so this morning I am here with a very simple message, that is a message that we are unified together and we must work together, we must uplift each other together and we must respond to each other together. So outside of the drainage and so, we are developing sports infrastructure so that it can help to give positive areas for our young people,” the President said.

The Agricola residents did not shy away from raising several issues that affect the community with President Ali, from the quality of water through their taps to bad roads and high unployment among youths.

“We want to be able to hear from you about what are the gaps, and how we can help in filling those gaps and how we can ensure that our children stay in school. How we can ensure that we support the ambition of the government of every single child have an education and finish school,” the President said.

The President also promised to provide training for young men in the community to become skilled workers to able tap into the construction sector.

“The only way we are going to advance communities and create new ways of doing things is if we are able to generate positivity—if we are able to create a positive environment in which we live, a positive environment in which we support each other and an understanding that we are in this all together,” the President said.

A number of other Government officials have visited the community in the past months with information about various development plans.
