Agriculture Minister admitted to ICU following heart episode

The Minister of Agriculture, Noel Holder has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital after being rushed thereĀ on Sunday with complaints of pains to his chest and stomach areas.

News Source understands that the Minister has been declared to be in a stable condition but doctors have decided to keep him in the intensive care unit for additional checks and tests. It is believed that he may be suffering from an ailment that is affecting his lungs.

There are also reports that Mr. Holder is known to have a heart condition and doctors want to keep monitoring him for any other health related matter. He has also complained of a hypertension condition in the past.

Holder was sworn into office back in May as the Agriculture Minister. He has been keeping a busy schedule with a number of stakeholder meetings in and out of Guyana in relation to the rice and sugar industries and other agriculture matters.

Efforts to contact the Director of Public Information for the Government, Imran Khan, for a comment proved futile.

Mr. Holder’s illness comes on the same day that the administration is taking its budget to the National Assembly for presentation to be followed by a debate and passage.

The government holds a one seat majority in the National Assembly. If Holder is forced to take some time off from work during the budget period, the administration might be forced to find a replacement for him to ensure smooth passage of the budget.
