Agriculture Officer dies in Tacama accident; Others badly injured

A well-known Agriculture Officer from Region 10 died tragically this afternoon in an accident along the Tacama Road in the Berbice River area in Region 10. Three other persons were badly injured in the accident and remain hospitalized.

Officials in Region 10 have identified the dead man as Aaron Leith who worked at the National Agriculture Research Institute (NAREI) as a District Crop Extension Officer for Region 10.

Leitch was a passenger in Ministry of Agriculture pick-up that was heading to one of the outlying Region 10 communities when tragedy struck.

It is suspected that the vehicle was being driven at a fast rate when the driver lost control as the vehicle skidded on small bricks on the road and flipped over several times.

Persons in the area said Leitch was pitched out of the vehicle and onto the roadway.

He was picked up along with the other injured persons and rushed to the hospital, but it was too late for him.

The matter is being investigated by the Police in the area.
