As thousands gathered at the Kitty Market square on Sunday for the launch of the PPP Civic’s election campaign, President Irfaan Ali said the large gathering should be seen as just a rehearsal for all that will come on Elections Day.
Taking the stage to a charged atmosphere this evening, the President said the PPP has stood the test of time and remains a tried and tested. He said his Government has delivered on its promises.
According to the President, the last five years marked the start of a greater journey that he believes will continue with a greater mandate from the people.
“The march to victory on the 1st of September, starts right here, right now, with all of you. The PPP/C is not just a party, it is a movement, a mission and a force of progress and all of you are part of this mission. We are not getting weaker, we are getting stronger, bigger, louder and come September 1st we will sweep the polls like never before in the history of Guyana,” Mr. Ali told party supporters.
Earlier in his address, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo warned supporters not to be complacent, he said while electoral fortunes are tilted in the favor of the PPP, they must ensure that they rally their communities to come out and vote.
The President echoed similar sentiments saying that the margin of victory depends party supporters to show up in their numbers for the party on elections day.

“You did not just show up, you showed the whole country today, that Guyana is ready to deliver the biggest victory ever for the People’s Progressive Party Civic. When I see this sea of people right here in Kitty, I know and you know that the PPP/C is unstoppable,” the President said.
The President described the PPP as stronger than ever before, he said the founders and stalwarts of the party must be proud of what the party has become.
“We are strong because we are party of the worker, the nurse, the civil servant, the farmer, the cane cutter, the fisherman, the bauxite worker, the mason, the carpenter, the fire and policeman, the teachers, doctors and engineers, we are the party of every single Guyanese. We are the party of the common man and everyday woman,” the President stated.
He said many of the programmes implemented by the PPP over the years are not guess work, and that the next ppp/c government will ensure that that progress continue.
