Lashing out at his political opponents, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo on Sunday said it matters not the number of parties stacked against the PPP/C, his party will still emerge victorious at the upcoming elections.
“So it doesn’t matter who they stack against us. One party, two party, three parties, whatever they stack against us, we are clear about what will happen on September 1,” Jagdeo said as he addressed a sea of supporters during the party’s launch this afternoon in Kitty, Georgetown.
Singling out the Presidential Candidate of We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), Azruddin Mohamed, Mr. Jagdeo said Mohamed is simply “trying to save his ass from jail,” as he downplayed the growing support that the sanctioned billionaire is receiving ahead of the elections.
“This guy is just trying to save ass from jail. That’s all, he is no victim,” Jagdeo said.
Urging the party’s supporters not to be misled by information they see on the internet, Jagdeo reminded that social media likes and clicks do not equate to votes.
“What is important for election is getting people out to vote and getting the votes counted. Internet doesn’t vote, and so all of the others who are campaigning on internet, posting nice images of themselves, the Mohameds and the others, without facing the media – they have no policy… nothing, nothing to talk about. But the internet doesn’t vote, people do, and we have the numbers here,” he said.
He said, however, that the PPP/C could only achieve a massive victory if its supporters put in the work by mustering support for the party in the communities and regions.
Jagdeo said the message must be clear that the PPP/C has made good on the commitments made in its 2020 Manifesto, and must be given another term in office to complete the work started.

He said from Education to Health to Infrastructure, the PPP/C Government has transformed the country’s landscape, and citizens can now boast of having improved services across the public sector.
“We have kept our country safe from COVID. We have transformed the lives of many people. We have put 60,000, over 60,000 people back to work. We now have 40,000 nearly studying at the tertiary level. We have trained another 42,000 people, 50,000 house lots. We have made university free. We have kept our promise to the children by returning their grant. We have double old aged pension. We’ve returned the Joint Services’ bonus. We removed all the 200 plus taxes, 50 billion worth of them. We fulfill our promise of no new taxes in the five years,” Jagdeo said.
He said in the Agriculture Sector, sugar workers, who were placed on the breadline under the APNU+AFC Administration, were rehired while billions of dollars were given to farmers to bring down the cost of production, and assist them in time of disaster.
In the case of public servants, Mr. Jagdeo said public servants have benefited from an increase of over $120 billion per annum.
He said the party delivered, but there is much more work to be done.
He said the PPP/C’s plans for the country have been well articulated, and citizens must not put the country’s development at risk by voting for those involved in criminality.
