Police investigators and mining officials are heading to the Mahdia area following the death of a miner after the mining pit that he was working in, caved and buried him alive.
The dead miner has been identified as 42-year-old Nolan Lindie of Rosignol, West Bank Berbice. The incident took place on Saturday morning at Mahdia in the Potaro area.
According to a Police report, Lindie was working in the pit when it caved in on him. It took his fellow miners close to four hours to find his body beneath the soil and by the time they pulled him out and rushed him to the Mahdia hospital, he was pronounced dead by doctors.
This is the second buried alive mining death to take place in the Potaro area for the week.
On Thursday, 32-year-old miner Rocklyn Solomon, was working in a mining pit at Princeville, Potaro River, when it caved in and buried him alive.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
