APNU+AFC blasts Bruce Golding over Statements to OAS

The APNU+AFC coalition is accusing the Head of the OAS Observer Mission that Observed Guyana’s elections of being biased.

In a statement last evening, the party said former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding has shown partisanship and unquestionable links to the People’s Progressive Party and that compromises him.

APNU+AFC Executive and Candidate, Joe Harmon said Golding can no longer be considered an independent observer since in the coalition’s view, “he has clearly demonstrated a bias for his close associates and appears to have now become an unabashed co-conspirator of the PPP as they seek to defy the will of the Guyanese people”.

Mr. Golding addressed the OAS Permanent Council on the electoral process in Guyana yesterday and highlighted what he referred to as the tainted tabulation process in Region 4.

He said there was a clear attempt at fraud with the Region 4 tabulation.

But the APNU+AFC said his statement before the OAS appeared wholly partisan and biased and therefore lacks credibility.

The APNU+AFC has accused the former Jamaican Prime Minister of palling around with PPP General Secretary and even serving as his dinner guest while he was in Guyana as an election observer.

Mr. Harmon said Golding, in his statement, ignored the fact that the ongoing recount was agreed to by President David Granger and the Opposition Leader and he has also ignored a number of discrepancies and irregularities that have been uncovered during the recount.

“Mr. Golding instead focusses on a declaration which had already been ruled on by the court and other documents issued by the People’s Progressive Party. He seems to believe that whatever the PPP puts out is authentic, ignoring the fact that a full statement has not been made by the Guyana Elections Commission”, Harmon said.
