“Be part of your children’s lives” -First Lady

On Father’s Day, Guyana’s First Lady, Deolatchmee Ramotar has issued a call for fathers to play a greater role in the lives of their children and for children and their fathers to reignite the bond that is needed in the society.

In a message to mark Father’s Day, the First Lady said “we are truly blessed to have within our midst so many good men single-mindedly dedicated to the well being of their families and who continue to inspire, guide, protect, care and provide for their families. They are fine examples of fatherhood”.

But she added that “unfortunately there remain in our society too many fathers that are absent from the lives of their children. I wish to encourage them to find ways of being part of their children’s lives because a father figure is important in the upbringing of our sons and daughters.”

The First Lady has called for children too, to work towards becoming closer to their fathers since in so doing the family is strengthened “and strong families, as we know, make better communities and societies”.

The President’s wife said it is her wish that this Fathers’ Day will witness sincere attempts to strengthening the bonds between child and father.
