Berbice man jailed 4 years and fined $27M over 66-pound marijuana bust

42-year-old Berbice resident, Rajesh Bookram, has been sentenced to four years in prison and fined $27 Million after he was found guilty of trafficking 66 pounds of marijuana.

Mookram was busted in November 2025 at Sandaka Creek, Corentyne in Berbice.

According to a report from CANU, the man was intercepted by CANU agents carrying out an operation in the area at the time. He was nabbed on his motorcycle with bulky bags in his possession.

A search of those bags unearthed the illegal drug in several large packages.

The man was immediately and arrested and charged. During his appearance in Court on the 2nd April, the Magistrate handed down the guilty verdict and immediately sentenced the 42-year-old man to prison and handed down the $27 Million fine.
