Berbice woman remanded for murder after allegedly feeding husband poisoned energy drink

A New Amsterdam, Berbice mother of three was charged and remanded to prison today for murder, over the poisoning death of her reputed husband.

42-year-old Leila Bacchus was not required to enter a plea on the murder charge when she appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court.

The Court was told that between the 16th and 20th May, the woman laced her husband’s energy drink with poison, resulting in his death. She reportedly admitted to the crime to Police investigators following the husband’s death.

The woman complained to the Police that she had become tired of her husband harassing her about an affair she had with another man.

The husband, Andy Junor, had reportedly caught his wife in a sexually compromising position with one man, and after she walked away from that affair, she started another affair with another man.

The couple continued to live together but would have regular arguments over the woman’s multiple affairs.

The accused was quiet throughout her Court appearance, and was immediately remanded to jail on the murder charge.

Her next Court appearance will be the 11th July, 2023.
