Six days after he was reported missing, the body of 6-year-old Orlando Jaikarran was found early this morning during a search operation at the sea dam in Bath Settlement, Berbice.

Police Commander in Region Five, Lansdale Withrite, confirmed the discovery of the child’s lifeless body. He also confirmed that the child’s father, Bharrat Jaikarran, is the prime suspect and remains in Police custody.

The father had initially claimed that he was unaware of the child’s whereabouts and had last seen him when he put him to bed on the 13th October.

He reported the boy missing on the morning of the 14th October and initially assisted in the search operations.

However, over the weekend, security video recordings from a house in the same area where the man lives, revealed footage of the man walking from his home holding a child late on the night on October 13, and returning to his home without the child.

Police investigators arrested the father and confronted him with the new evidence, resulting in him admitting to dumping the child’s body near a canal at the sea dam in Bath Settlement and pointing investigators to the location.

It was around 2 o’clock this morning that the child’s body was found among other debris near the canal. Investigations remain active.
