Brazilian Prison escapee, Roger Batalha Rodrigues, has been recaptured in the bordering town of Lethem by members of the Mounted Branch of the Guyana Police Force.
In a statement, the Police said that some of the ranks of the Mounted Branch stationed in Lethem, were on patrol yesterday in the Takatu River area, when they detained the man for questioning after he started to act suspiciously.

He was positively identified as Roger Batalha Rodrigues who recently escaped from one of the jails in the neighbouring country along with 98 others.
That escape followed a prison riot which left nine prisoners dead and several others badly injured.
According to local police, the escapee, who at the time of escape was serving a sentence for vehicular theft, has since been handed over to law enforcement officials in Brazil.
The Mounted Branch was established in the Lethem community in December of 2015, as efforts got underway to better serve the hinterland community.
