An operation by the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit on Saturday has resulted in the seizure of just over 18 pounds of cocaine and the arrest of two suspects.
The operation was conducted in Kitty in Georgetown. According to a CANU statement, during the operation, its ranks intercepted two motor vehicles. One of the vehicles fled the scene at high speed with its driver trying to evade the CANU ranks as they gave chase.
A collision between the car and some vehicles belonging to CANU brought that escape bid to an end.
CANU said during the pursuit, its ranks noticed a brown cardboard box being flung from the vehicle.
Some ranks stopped and retrieved the box while others continued the chase and eventually intercepted the vehicle at Sheriff Street and Rupert Craig Highway.

The vehicle was being driven by Shaquille Gordon, who was also the only occupant of the vehicle at the time.
The Police said a search of the box that was seen being thrown from the car, revealed 7 parcels of cocaine. The man was immediately arrested, while the other suspect, who had been stopped earlier was also arrested and taken into custody.
The probe is ongoing.
