Two Venezuelan nationals, who were held on Friday in a “go-fast” boat with just over 1,100 pounds of cocaine, have been charged and remanded to jail.

The two men, Jose Felix Lindore and Javier Perez, appeared at the Leonora Magistrates’ Court where the drug trafficking charges were read to them.

Both suspects pleaded not guilty to the drug trafficking charges and were immediately remanded to jail by the presiding Magistrate. Their next Court appearance will be on the 10th May, 2024.

The men were arrested at Vergenoegen, in the Essequibo-Islands-West Demerara area with several large parcels of cocaine in a boat.

The vessel was intercepted by the Coast Guard and CANU ranks during a joint operation.

It was during a search of the vessel that the agents discovered the large quantity of narcotics along with a quantity of fuel and other items.

CANU said the narcotics was tested positive to be cocaine, and the total weight seized was 1,181 pounds, which carries a street value in Guyana of US$2.6 million.
