Men busted with over 1100 pounds cocaine in go-fast boat

Two men have been placed in the custody of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit after they held with more than 1100 pounds of cocaine in a Go-Fast Boat during a joint operation between the GDF Coast Guard and CANU.

In a statement, CANU explained that the operation took place on Friday at Vergenoegen, in the Essequibo-Islands-West Demerara area.

The vessel was intercepted by the Coast Guard and CANU ranks.

It was during a search of the vessel that the agents discovered the large quantity of narcotics along with a quantity of fuel and other items. Only two persons were on board the vessel at the time and they were both arrested.

CANU said the narcotics was tested positive to be cocaine, and the total weight of the cocaine seized was 1,181 pounds, with a street value in Guyana of US$2.6 million.

The two suspects are expected in Court this week.
