The drug pushers in Guyana appear to be stopping at nothing to get the cocaine out of the country, with dried saltfish being their latest failed effort.

The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit has announced the arrest of six persons following the discovery of more than 7 pounds of cocaine that was stashed in a shipment of saltfish that was destined to Miami.

Details of those arrested have not been released, but according to CANU, the bust took place this morning at the Cheddi Jagan Airport in the cargo area.

The cocaine was wrapped in 280 pieces of plastic-wrapped pencil-shaped parcels and hidden in the bones of the saltfish that was set for export. In total, the parcels carried a combined weight of 3.3 kilograms.

The operation appeared to have been carefully planned and investigators believe it must have taken some time to wrap the cocaine in the small parcels and then insert them into the pieces of saltfish in place of the bones.

An investigation into the bust is ongoing and there could be additional arrests.
