Charred remains found in car suspected to be missing witness; DNA tests to be conducted

The charred remains of a man that was discovered late on Friday in a burnt car in Mahaicony are believed to be those of missing Norton Street man, Collin Rodney.

Acting Crime Chief, Superintendent Michael Kingston told News Source this morning that from all appearances the remains appear to be those of Collin Rodney, but he cautioned that DNA tests will have to be done for confirmation purposes.

The body was burnt beyond recognition and the car that was also found at the scene was badly burnt. The car is suspected to be the silvery grey Toyota car that Rodney drove.

Rodney went missing last Friday as he was on his way to Court to provide the last part of the evidence in the murder trial for his cousin. He was a witness to his cousin’s murder and was scheduled to take the stand one last time on the same day that he disappeared.

Investigators suspect that his disappearance is tied to the ongoing murder trial since he was a key witness.

Two men, 39-year-old Osafa Grundell, called ‘Safo’ and 21-year-old James Fraser, 21 are on trial for the murder of Marlon Seon Rodney, who was gunned down in Norton Street back in April. The trial is in the preliminary inquiry stage.

Marlon Rodney was the cousin of Collin Rodney. The murder was suspected to be drug-related.
