Suspected remains of missing Policeman found buried in shallow grave at Madewini

Almost three years since he was last seen alive, the suspected remains of Police Constable Quincy Lewis were found this afternoon buried in a shallow grave along the Linden/Soesdyke highway.

Investigators got a major breakthrough in the case following the arrest of two suspects, who provided information that led cops to the location along the Linden/Soesdyke highway in the village of Madewini, where the remains were found buried in a sand filled grave.

Senior Police officials have since indicated to News Source that forensic tests will have to carried out on the remains to confirm the identity of the missing cop.

However, the Police source said based on the statements from the suspects and other factors, the Police have no doubt that the remains are those of Police Constable Quincy Lewis.

It was in June of 2020 that Lewis was reported missing. He was last seen alive entering a car to make his way to work from his West Demerara home. There were also reports that he was seen entering the Greenfield area on the East Bank of Demerara, but vanished without a trace after that sighting.

His mobile phone was traced to the Timehri area, but was found badly damaged.

The man’s family members became suspicious when he never returned home and his workplace reported that he never turned up for duty.

More than a year ago, Police investigators were able to come up two suspects, but faced some difficulty in locating them. It was just days ago that the two suspects were nabbed and under questioning, reportedly began to provide information about the young man’s death and the location of his remains.

Investigations are ongoing.
