Chief Education Officer Marcel Hutson is set to proceed on accumulated leave as he heads into retirement.
Mr. Hutson who has spent decades working in the Ministry of Education is owed more than 200 days of leave and a decision has been made that he proceeds on the owed leave as he approaches retirement.
Minister of Education Nicolette Henry this afternoon told News Source that Hutson’s leave will begin in early 2020. She dismissed reports on social media that the Chief Education Officer had been fired.
“He is still on the job and will remain on the job until he proceeds on leave and that will be early in the New Year”, Ms. Henry said.
The Ministry of Education and the Government of Guyana expressed thanks to the Chief Education Officer for his continued service.
President David Granger has been pressing his Ministers and Permanent Secretaries to ensure that officials who are owed leave proceed on leave.
