A young couple from Corentyne in Berbice may not be spending Valentine’s night the way they planned. The husband and wife, Premchand Kalicharran and Shazeeda Kumarie, were arrested last evening after just over five pounds of marijuana was discovered in their Crabwood Creek, Corentyne home.

According to a statement from the Police, ranks from the Police Force were on patrol in the Crabwood Creek area when they noticed the man sitting on a landing and parceling off an item.

The Police approached the man and caught him packing small ziploc bags with marijuana. The Police said 52 ziploc bags of marijuana leaves, stems and seeds were found in the man’s possession.

The ranks also discovered four bulky parcels of marijuana. The Police said while they were questioning the man, his wife walked out of the bedroom of the same house.

They were both arrested and taken to the Springlands Police Station. The marijuana was also confiscated as charges are being prepared.

The Police said the husband is known to law enforcement in the area and has been a suspect in marijuana trafficking.
