Four more persons died from Coronavirus on Monday taking the total number of recorded deaths in Guyana to 247. Fourteen of those deaths occurred with the past five days.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health reported that all of the latest deaths took place in a medical institution while the persons were under care for COVID.

There were 26 new cases of the virus recorded in the past 24hrs. Region Four continues to see the largest increase in new cases with more than 500 active cases in the Region.

The Ministry of Health has warned that there is a spike in new cases and deaths. It is suspected that a faster spreading and deadlier strain of the virus is now in Guyana and it is one that attacks younger and even healthier people with no underlying conditions.

Citizens are being encouraged to continue to wear face masks and avoid large gatherings.
