The Government of Guyana has announced the appointment of career diplomat, Dr. Riyad Insanally as the new Guyana Ambassador to the United States.

Dr. Insanally is currently the Representative of the Organisation of American States in neighbouring Trinidad. Before taking up that appointment in 2006, Insanally served as the Senior Trade Advisor at the Guyana High Commission in the United Kingdom.

He started his diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Guyana in 1990 and served as a Senior Foreign Officer for several years.

He was also a lecturer in modern languages at the University of Guyana.  After he left the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he held Consultant positions at CARICOM and a number of other international agencies. He is the holder of a PhD in languages from Harvard University but before that he was a Guyana Scholar. 

The Government of Guyana on Wednesday also announced the appointment of Dr. Kenrick Hunte as Ambassador to South Africa and Cita Pilgrim as the Consul General in Barbados.  Ms. Shirley Melville has also been appointed to serve as Consul General in Boa Vista, Brazil.

Just recently, the Government announced several other Diplomatic appointments.
