Driver of Region 10 Chairman arrested by Police; Family expresses concern about whereabouts and Police operation

The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that ranks from its Criminal Investigations Department on Thursday evening arrested the driver for the Region 10 Chairman as part of an ongoing investigation.

The driver, Roy Marshall, was at his home when a group of men in plainclothes who said they were Police Officers turned up at his house and arrested him.

Marshall’s family said no details about the reason for the arrest were provided. They have complained that although the officers claimed that they were taking Marshall to the Mackenzie Police station, he never arrived there and checks at the station confirmed that he was never taken there.

The Police Force’s Public Relations Office this morning confirmed that Marshall was instead taken to the CID Headquarters in Georgetown. The PR Office said it has no information about the reason behind the arrest.

Region 10 Chairman Deron Adams said he learnt of his driver’s arrest this morning after he was contacted by the man’s wife. He said checks by him with the Police in the community provided little information as the Police in Linden claimed they were not part of any operation that arrested Marshall.

News Source has since learnt that Marshall was arrested as part of the probe into the July 2020 fire at the GECOM Wismar office in Linden.

Last evening, the Police announced the arrest of three persons in connection with the fire with the claim that two of them had confessed to the crime. The Police in its statement said it was on the hunt for a 4th suspect.
