Agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit on Wednesday evening busted a drug convict at the Ogle International Airport with over five pounds of cocaine in his bags. The man was getting ready to board a flight to Barbados.
He has been identified as 34-year-old Terry Defreitas who was released from prison last year after serving time behind bars on a drug trafficking charge. He was busted and convicted in 2012 after he was held at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with 86 cocaine pellets in his stomach.
DeFreitas is a former Assistant at the Georgetown Magistrates court. He lost that job following his 2012 conviction. After being released from prison, DeFreitas started a job as a taxi driver and back in December he won $1 Million in cash as part of a Christmas dreams promotion for a local company.
That million dollar win and his chance at starting over may not have been enough to keep the young man away from drug trafficking. He will make his court appearance on Thursday to face the new drug trafficking charge.
