Minister of Education, Sonia Parag has expressed confidence that the more than 15,500 students currently writing the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) Examinations will perform well, as she believes the investments made in the Education sector will pay off.
Minister Parag visited the Diamond-Grove Primary School on the East Bank of Demerara this morning as students were preparing to begin the first day of the exams.
On behalf of the Government, she wished the students well, as cheer squads across the country greeted the children with words of encouragement.

In an interview, the Education Minister said the Government has made significant investments in Education, and has rolled out a number of initiatives intended to enhance students’ performance in the four core subject areas at the primary level.
Among the newer initiatives are online classes with focus on Mathematics and English, the establishment of Math tents across the country, and the issuance of added learning materials.
“I have no doubt that our Grade Six students will perform well for NGSA given the interventions, the investments, the resources that we have provided in terms of text books, in terms of past papers, all that had been available through the Ministry of Education and we have encouraged not only teachers and students but parents to access what we have available so that students can better prepare themselves for these exams. Do I have no doubt,” Minister Parag said.
With one more day of exams left, Minister Parag is urging both students and parents to remain calm but positive.

Reaffirming the Education Ministry’s commitment to improving learning outcomes in the country, Minister Parag said a Literacy Assessment has been implemented and come next year, a Numeracy Assessment will be introduced into the Education System.
“We have started this year, long term solutions in terms of the literacy assessments for Grades 2 and Grade 4, and that will necessarily lead to comprehension and the reading skills that need to comprehend questions when they are answering exams, not only for that purpose, but of course we want literate students existing the primary system. But also in 2027, we play to launch the numeracy assessments that will of course help with Mathematics,” Minister Parag explained.
Ahead of the exams, the Education Ministry assured that all systems were in place to facilitate the assessment, which will conclude tomorrow.
