Agents of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit arrested a 64-year-old man on Wednesday with almost 10 pounds of compressed marijuana in a suitcase in the mini-bus park area near Hadfield and Water Streets.
The elderly man, Clarence Wrights of Bagotsville, West Bank Demerara, was noticed walking along the street pulling the suitcase moments after crossing over with a speedboat from the West Demerara.
He was stopped by CANU agents who searched the suitcase and uncovered the large marijuana stash. Two Ziploc packets of marijuana were also found in his pocket along with a quantity of cash.
Wrights was immediately arrested by CANU. The matter is still under investigation. He could face charges soon.
