A large section of the Laparkan shipping bond was gutted by fire late last night, leaving hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.
The fire service rushed to the scene on Lombard Street after the fire was spotted in a section of the compound that was close to where lots of flammable material are stored.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but from appearances the fire may have started in a section in the compound to the back and close to some of the wharf facilities at the location.
A number of shipping companies use the facilities at Laparkan and the wharf at the same location.
The Fire Service has started its investigation.
