The repaired gas compressor on ExxonMobil’s Liza Destiny vessel has been fully reinstalled on the vessel and the company is in the final stage of a three-phase testing programme.

With the compressor system fully reinstalled, flaring has been reduced on the oil production vessel.

“Over the last few days, the team successfully completed the first two phases, which were intended to verify the effectiveness of the modifications to the equipment and control system logic. Pilot level flare was attained during the testing and a significant volume of the process and mechanical date collected”, the Company said.

The compressor was damaged back in January and resulted in the company having to temporarily increase gas-flaring above pilot levels to maintain safe operations. Subsequently, the company removed the faulty compressor and sent it for repairs in Germany.

“The final stage of the testing will take place this week after removal of temporary instrumentation. The third phase involves monitoring the performance of the machine closely in normal, steady-state operation.”

ExxonMobil was harshly criticized for flaring gas above pilot level. In addition to the repairs on the existing equipment, the company earlier reported that an order has been placed for a new flash gas compressor which will be available closer to the end of the year.
