Former Mayor of Bartica throws support behind President Ali and PPP

Former Mayor of Bartica and APNU member, Gifford Marshall has announced his endorsement of President Irfaan Ali for a second term.

In a statement on his Facebook page this morning, Marshall reflected on a meeting he had earlier this year with the President.

He said he was struck by the President’s “genuine passion for fostering unity among all Guyanese, his commitment to religious tolerance, and his ambitious vision for infrastructure development. His dynamic energy, deep love for our country, and pragmatic approach to governance are truly commendable qualities.”

The former Bartica Mayor said after assessing the path forward for the nation, he believes that the country needs leadership that can harness its tremendous potential, while navigating the complexities of the rapidly changing world.

He credited the President with demonstrating “the vision, and dedication required to guide Guyana through this crucial period in our history”.

“His distinguished record of public service stands as a testament to his capabilities. I applaud his achievements during his tenure and extend my best wishes for continued success in the 2025 elections and beyond. Therefore, I endorse President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali for a second term as President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana”, Marshall said.

Marshall became the first Mayor of Bartica in 2016, months after Bartica officially became a town.

He left office in 2023 following the last Local Government Elections and has been keeping a relatively low public profile since. However, two weeks ago he announced on his social media page that he had scrapped plans to sit out the upcoming elections, since he considered it too big to be on the sidelines.
