Former PNC General Secretary Dawn Hastings-Williams joins WIN Party

Former General Secretary of the People’s National Congress Reform, Dawn Hastings-Williams has announced her decision to join the recently formed “We Invest in Nationhood” political party, which is headed by billionaire businessman, Azruddin Mohamed, who remains under US Government sanctions.

Hastings-Williams served in the APNU+AFC Administration as a Minister of Public Affairs, Minister within the Ministry of Communities and Minister of State.

In a statement on Friday night, she said as Guyana is preparing to take its place on the global stage, it is easy for national development to be derailed and lose its momentum if those who are chosen to lead “are ill-equipped and lack the substance and veracity that is necessary for this transition.”

She said the We Invest in Nationhood party promises the type of Government and leadership that will give Guyanese a united voice.

“Today, more than ever Guyana needs strong, visionary leadership that goes way beyond the belief that what obtained in past decades is still relevant today. As a nation we must keep up with the rest of the world if we are to be recognized and respected as a developing oil producing nation. Guyana as we know, is endowed with an abundance of natural resources but yet we seem to be on a slow- moving poverty reduction train. Available data by the World Bank as of 2019 indicate that 48 percent of our population live in poverty. It is therefore obvious that we need stronger and more vigorous poverty reduction strategies to combat this phenomenon. I found Azruddin Mohamed’s vision truly inspiring after reviewing the Manifesto of the We Invest in Nationhood Party which outlines some of these strategies, she stated.

She said WIN’s policies promote genuine leadership that is committed to ensuring equality in the distribution of our nation’s wealth.

Hastings-Williams is expected to be a candidate on WIN’s list of candidates for the elections. She is among several persons who have resigned from the PNC Reform in the past few weeks.
