Four Berbice men charged for murder of Corentyne carpenter

Four men from Corentyne, Berbice have been remanded to prison after being charged for the murder of 27-year-old carpenter, Faisal Narindatt of No. 70 Village, Corentyne.

39-year-old Radish Motie, 18-year-old Diadath Datt, 49-year-old Harripaul Parsram and 37-year-old Niram Yakoby appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday) and were slapped with the murder charge. They were not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded them all to prison until December 13, 2016 when the case is expected to get underway.

The case has been transferred to the Springlands Magistrates’ Court.  The four men reportedly confessed to being involved in the carpenter’s murder and staging the murder to appear as an accident. They have implicated another Guyanese who live overseas.

The overseas based Guyanese is said to be the mastermind. He reportedly made sexual advances to the young man and after he was rejected and slapped across the face, he hired the men to carry out the act before he left Guyana.

Investigators believe that the four snatched the carpenter and savagely beat him until he was unconscious.

His body was then dumped on the roadway and they used a car to run over the body to make appear as if the man was the victim of a hit and run accident.

There are reports that an attempt was also made to bribe the police investigators who were overlooking the case in the initial stages.
