The Guyana Elections Commission has announced that it will start officially releasing the results of the election from around noon today.
Polls closed at 6 o’clock last evening and the Elections Commission said that except for a few isolated cases, the voting process went well, with thousands of persons voting early across the country.
The various Presiding Officers wrapped up their counting last evening and statements of polls have been posted outside the various polling stations.
There were more than 2300 polling stations across the country. The Guyana Elections Commission has set up a special website, www.guyanaelections.com to release results officially.
Preliminary results are expected to be released by early this afternoon with official results to follow.
The Chair of the Guyana Elections Commission Justice Claudette Singh has indicated that she understands that the country is in a charged state, but she has encouraged the media and other persons not to sensationalize reports and be careful with what is being posted on social media.
