Police investigators now have five persons in custody as they prepare to file charges in the disappearance and murder of British teen, Dominic Bernard.

The teenager’s God brother, Aaron Hing and the God brother’s friend, Staymon George, are among the five in Police custody and have both confessed to murdering the teen and burying his body in the backlands of the village where the God brother lives.

The teen arrived in Guyana back in October for a visit with the God brother but his family became worried in December after the God brother claimed that he had not seen the young man and had no idea that the youth had travelled to Guyana.

The investigation into the teen’s disappearance took a sad turn on Friday after the Police received information that the young man’s body had been buried in a shallow grave. The police searched the area and the shallow grave was found with a decomposed body that appeared to be that of the teen.

Police investigators now say that there is no doubt that the body is that of the British teenager. The God brother was arrested on Friday evening at a city hotel and his alleged accomplice was arrested at a Tucville house on Saturday morning.

Both men confessed to the murder while being questioned by the Police officers. It is believed that robbery may have been a motive since the teen had traveled to Guyana with a large sum of money to assist him in his film making efforts.

In a statement to News Source on Saturday evening, the family of the teenager said they are completely devastated by news of their son’s death. They described Dominic as a smart young man who was in love with film making and had started his own company. The family also reported that they were informed that the God brother and the other man had confessed to the murder.

“Although no formal identification has taken place, in the last few hours we have learnt that Stayman George has confessed to the murder of Dominic, along with Aaron Hing. We are devasted.

Dominic was full of hope, ambition, creativity, self-respect, faith and trust. He was very much loved by all his family as well as a wide circle of friends. He was a talented film-maker and we are in no doubt that he had a bright and successful future ahead of him.

He travelled to Guyana on October 14 2015 to pursue his dream of studying film-making.

Already an accomplished photographer, director and editor with several music videos under his belt, Dominic was in the process of taking up an offer from an American school to work alongside and be mentored by established movie directors in the US.

Dominic has never been particularly academic but he left school at 16 with five good GCSEs. He enrolled at a local college but rather than sitting behind a desk, he preferred to be out there actually gaining experience by working and he has been very successful with his production company.

A Major Production produces slick and sophisticated music videos, including Eastside’s Just Don and What U Say by TYC, which have been well received in the industry.

Dominic’s film-making career began when he was just 14 years old. He made a video on how to change the chain on his BMX bike and posted it on YouTube. It got over 1,000 hits but more importantly Dominic had found a place he was happy to inhabit: behind the camera lens.

After the success of that first video, he became a YouTube partner and started his own channel posting instructional films but also creative stuff, too.

With his father Dominic travelled to Washington DC for the inauguration of President Obama as they felt the great significance of the US electing its first black leader. Dom was just 12 at the time but he was very interested in what was happening and even made a video on the President’s life, which was also posted on YouTube. The trip was also covered by BBC News and a major London radio station, LBC.

After years of doing video-making Dominic become technically proficient and very knowledgable. He re-invested heavily in his equipment.

Sometimes Dominic would film, direct and edit the videos for free in order to gain exposure and experience but most were charged £100s. It was his sole source of income.

In common with teenagers across the globe, he enjoyed listening to rap music in the bedroom of his home he shared with his parents Andrew and Linda and two little sisters, aged 12 and 14.

The family are familiar faces at their local church in the outskirts of London but in recent years Dominic preferred to attend a church in a neighbouring area.

Spiritually, Dominic was still discovering himself and becoming aware of his identity.

On his Facebook page, Dominic’s thoughtful posts included a message to “those with anything heavy on their heart, that’s constantly on your mind, just give it to God man I don’t know what I’d do without him I know I’m talking to somebody”, he said last summer.

Also: “If you continuously compete with others, you become bitter, but if you continuously compete with yourself you become better.”

He also shared his plans to film a short motivational, inspiring film that would “spark something up in people’s minds positively….”

Dominic Bernard, aged just 18, was full of hope, ambition, creativity, self-respect, faith and trust. In chasing his dreams, exploring his heritage and doing the things that brought joy to his heart, and so many others, he tragically encountered those who do not share these values.”
