Granger warns PPP over propaganda fliers : You’re playing with fire

Leader of A Partnership for National Unity, retired Brigadier David Granger has issued a clear warning to the governing People’s Progressive Party over the distribution of “propaganda” fliers that were allegedly made and distributed by the PPP.

At his weekly press briefing, Mr. Granger said the PPP was now “playing with fire”. His warning came in response to the distribution of fliers in a number of hinterland communities featuring photographs of Granger next to Adolph Hitler and Saddam Hussein.

Other similar pamphlets have been distributed in many of the small communities across the country.

Granger has called on the PPP to run a clean and fair elections campaign and cease the “misuse and abuse” of state resources.

“I am worried about what the people will do to the publishers of that vile propaganda. I don’t know if the Police will be able to restrain those angry people. The PPP is playing with fire when they start publishing photographs of me alongside Adolph Hitler and when they start claiming that the Demerara river will run red with blood if Granger is elected President, they are playing with fire and I warn them to desist from that vile propaganda”, Granger said.

The PPP has in the past denied any involvement in the publication of the fliers.

He said he has already expressed his concerns to the Guyana Elections Commission. The Diplomatic community has also been briefed about the concerns of the opposition party.

The Alliance For Change has also raised concern about what it also sees as the abuse of state resources by the party in government.

The Western Diplomats have indicated that they would like to see an issue based campaign which will see the political leaders presenting their policies to the people of Guyana to give voters a clearer choice.

President Ramotar announced May 11, 2015 as the day when General and Regional Elections will be hosted.
