The Government of Guyana today condemned the violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by Russia.

In a statement issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Guyana Government also called for an immediate cessation of Military action.

The Government said it is now in consultation with Guyana’s International partners and will issue a full statement on the issue later today.

In a separate statement, the People’s National Congress which is the largest party in the APNU+AFC Opposition coalition also called for an immediate cease-fire in the Russian attack on Ukraine.

In the statement, the PNC Reform said it has been following the events that led up to the ongoing invasion by Russia and it believes the violation of the borders of Ukraine is most likely to have grave implications for the peaceful development and for the geopolitics of Europe and the rest of the world.

The opposition party said it is also concerned that there could be negative consequences on the world economy

The PNC said the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its internationally recognized borders must be condemned.

Since the Russian Government started its invasion of Ukraine, international condemnation has been swift, but Russia has ignored the opposition to its actions and has continued its invasion from several fronts.

Guyana and Russia have shared close diplomatic relations for several years.
