Guyana/Suriname ferry service affected as Suriname goes into weekend lockdown

Days after the Suriname Government announced additional requirements for persons arriving in Suriname, a lockdown of the country over COVID-19 concerns is set to affect the Guyana/Suriname ferry service.

The Government of Suriname has instituted a full lockdown, which has already gone into effect and will end on Monday.

As a result, the ferry service for this weekend has been cancelled and the service will resume next Wednesday.

When the service resumes, all passengers will be required to show a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of their scheduled time of departure to Suriname.

Additionally, as of last week, all persons traveling to Suriname will be required to quarantine for seven days at a government-approved hotel after arriving in the neighbouring country. The arriving passengers will stand the cost for the hotel accomodation.
