Guyana’s COVID-19 cases continue to climb; Recoveries also on the rise

Guyana recorded three new cases of the coronavirus over this past weekend. The total number of active cases now stands at 71.

A total of 70 persons have now made full recoveries from the coronavirus while the total number of deaths still stands at 12.

The latest death from the disease is a 78-year-old resident of Palms Geriatric home who passed away on Saturday.

There continues to be concern about the rising number in the interior regions.

Region One now has a total of eight cases. Those persons have been placed in an isolation facility in that Region.  It is likely that they will only be brought to Georgetown if their condition becomes serious or worsens.

Residents in that bordering region with Venezuela are being asked to follow the strict guidelines set out by the health authorities.

They are also being encouraged to alert the authorities in the Region about any new persons who may be illegally crossing over into Guyana from Venezuela.
