Guyanese and Bajan held in Barbados for over 250 pound cocaine bust

A Guyanese national and a Barbadian are in the custody of the Police in Barbados after they were busted with over 265 pounds of cocaine and close to 200 pounds of marijuana.

The bust took place early Wednesday morning at Carlisle Bay in the parish of St. Michael.  The names of the two men have not been released.

Barbadian police officials revealed that the cocaine carried a value of over US$3 Million while the marijuana is valued at just over US$150,000.

Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police and public relations officer in Barbados, David Welch said the bust was made as part of an early morning operation.  A boat was also seized. It is believed that the boat may have been used to ferry the drugs into the island. It is unclear where the origin might have been.

There have been a number of other drug busts in Barbados over the past two years with connections to Guyana.
